Well, it looks like the controversy surrounding producer Vipul Shah’s The Kerala Story starring Adah Sharma has worked wonders for the film.

The advance booking of the film was way better than Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi starrer Selfiee and in the same range as Ranveer Singh’s Cirkus, Varun Dhawan’s Bhediya and Kartik Aaryan’s Shehzada.

And that has resulted in a strong morning show occupancy all over on its opening day.

According to Box Office India, The Kerala Story has taken an excellent start at the box office and going by the current trends, its day 1 business will be bigger than Vivek Agnihotri’s last year hit The Kashmir Files which collected Rs 3.25 crore.

However, that doesn’t mean it can get to the lifetime numbers of The Kashmir Files (Rs 252.90 crore). For that, The Kerala Story requires the same kind of support and hysteria The Kashmir Files got post release.

Keeping in consideration the low budget of the film as compared to its opening day estimate, The Kerala Story is already a box office hit.

The other major release of the week is Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. The James Gunn directorial starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana and Dave Bautista has taken a good start at the box office.

The advance booking of the film was better than Salman Khan’s Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan but it has to be seen how well it performs throughout the day.

Even though it is THE major release of the week, there are high chances that it may not top the box office and lose out to the much smaller The Kerala Story although its advances were higher than the Indian film.

There was a time when Marvel films were sure-shot box office hits but post Avengers: Endgame, the brand value of MCU has diminished substantially.

Barring Spider-Man: No Way Home, no other Marvel Studios film has generated strong business at the box office in India.
